This publication was created on the occasion of the artist's solo exhibition from January 2008 to March 2008.

'The use of the symbol “+” and its variant “x” is the systematically employed distinguishing feature throughout the artistic output of Ding Yi (Shanghai, b. 1962), regarded as the most important abstract painter working in China today. The artist chose this sign in the second half of the 80s as a synonym of structure, rationality and of a pictorial expressiveness that reflects the essence of things.

The simplicity of compositional structures contrast with the use of a wide variety of materials and of colours that range from almost monochrome tones to the very bright and fluorescent. For the artist these are a record on canvas of the excesses, noise, chaos and confusion but also the stimuli, styles and fashions of the city of Shanghai, with which his work is inextricably bound up.' from the publication's back cover.

Includes an artist biography, author biographies, and Chinese translation of essays.
