This publication accompanies the group exhibition entitled "Dreaming in Public" held at Gallery Soulflower, Bangkok, in 2009. This is the fifth major exhibition of the gallery which specializes initially in contemporary art of India and then expands its focus to include local artists and artists from Pakistan, Europe and the US. According to the curator, Brian Curtin, ' "Dreaming in Public" asks how notions of both "dreaming" and "public" may be understood less by their juxtaposition than mutual infiltration... How do the individual concerns of contemporary artists dovetail with a cultural mood or moment? For example, we could cite the pervasive contemporary issues of globalization, national identity, the influence of canonical art histories, and the cultural significance of particular media. Further, what happens when an artwork meets its public? More than the question of how 'we' engage the artwork is the question of how the artwork can be engaged. What are the limits and the possibilities?'
