'"Echoes of Home: Memory and Mobility in Recent Austral-Asian Art" is part of an ongoing series of locally relevant and nationally significant exhibitions initiated by Museum of Brisbane (MoB). It also continues MoB's commitment to investigate the cultural diversity of our community.

As part of MoB's ongoing exhibition program of social history, visual art, craft and design, this exhibition focuses particularly on artists who incorporate craft techniques into their art practice. At a time when there is often ambiguity over the artist's presence or touch in contemporary artworks, the artists in "Echoes of Home" continue to champion traditional craft practices and materials.

The exhibition presents the work of Asian artists who have made their home in Australia. Through the introduction of new philosophies, ideas and materials, many of these artists have influenced the way Australian-born practitioners approach their craft. In return, they also have been influenced by the environment and their experiences in this country.' (Excerpt from 'Foreword' by Alice-Anne Boylan, p.9)

Accompanying the exhibition held at Museum of Brisbane, May to August 2005, this catalogue includes introductory texts or dialogues regarding each participating artist.
