Published on the occasion of India's National Participation at the 54th International Art Exhibition, la Biennale di Venezia: ILLUMInazioni/ILLUMInations. The pavilion is an inquiry into the art of India, stretching the idea of cultural citizenship to represent different groups and their histories. The works of the four artists selected indicate the view of India as a conceptual entity that is not territorially bounded, but which extends outward into a global space of the imagination, embodying impulses from diverse regional modernities, religious lineages, subcultural locations, aesthetic choices, and philosophical standpoints. Artist biographies are included.
