‘For the past thirty years, Fung Ming Chip has developed and applied an artistic language which draws in wide ranging sources, to explore the roots of the calligraphic image: seal carving, wood carving, ink painting, as well as sculpture and sgraffito.’ – Paul Serfaty. He disintegrates the connections between strokes and creates new scripts, such as ‘Transparent’ script, ‘Light’ script and ‘Sand’ script, in which line is not always the primary expression of the meaning. This catalogue was published on the occasion of Fung’s solo exhibition at Hanart TZ Gallery (Hong Kong) in 2001. Biographical information of the artist is included.
