This catalogue was published to accompany the first survey exhibition of contemporary Pakistani art in the United States entitled 'Hanging Fire: Contemporary Art from Pakistan'. The exhibition was held from September 2008 to January 2009. Artist statements and biographies, as well as a chronology of historical and art events from 1947 to 2008 are included in the catalogue.
'The book's title, Hanging Fire, refers to an idiom that evokes the idea of delaying judgment, in this case, particularly based on assumptions of preconceived notions about contemporary society and artistic expression in Pakistan. It also alludes to the contemporary economic, political, and social tensions - both local and global - from which these artists find their creative inspiration.'
