'Home Works: A Forum on Cultural Practices is a multidisciplinary platform that takes place in Beirut, Lebanon every 2-3 years. Launched by Ashkal Alwan in 2002, Home Works has evolved into one of the most vibrant platforms for contemporary cultural practices in the Arab region and internationally.
Artists, curators, writers, thinkers, and cultural practitioners gather for ten days in order to share their works, which take the form of exhibitions, lectures, panels, artists’ talks, screenings, workshops and publications, as well as theatre, dance and music performances.
The second edition of the Home Works Forum, which took place in 2003, asked questions about the promise of globalization. Has it achieved its goal of creating a larger effective civil society or has it failed and resulted in alienation and loss of individuality amidst rapidly changing systems?' - from publisher's website.
This publication includes transcripts of lectures and panel discussions; descriptions of performances, exhibitions, films and videos screenings presented in the forum.
