The catalogue for the touring exhibition ‘In & Out: Contemporary Chinese Art from China and Australia'. Bringing together the works of ten contemporary Chinese artists, all of whom were born in China with a few being part of the exodus from the country in the late 1980s, this exhibition seek to explore the ways these artists have responded to social and cultural dislocation, the translation of modernism into an Eastern context, and the impact of new technologies in their art. The accompanying essays contributed by both Chinese and Western specialists provide a multi-lateral perspective of the theme of the show and the exhibits. Exhibition history of the participating artists and brief introduction to the writers are also included.
