The Sri Lanka convivium was organised by The Guild Gallery in Sri Lanka during the winter of 2002. The participants included ten artists as well as art critic and poet Ranjit Hoskote and cultural theorist Nancy Adajania. Ranjit Hoskote wrote, 'It (The convivium) provoked historical memory even as it prompted an immediate response to the fact of being in a country that was at once intimately known and utterly strange. We absorbed sculpture, architecture, painting and literature in hectic measures, as we negotiated with a web of nationalities, a kaleidoscpe of landscapes and a family of languages that were startlingly new to us.' Featured in the catalogue are works inspired by Sri Lanka, these include the paintings by nine of the artists, poems by Ranjit Hoskote, and an essay by Nancy Adajania. Artist biographies are also provided.
