This catalogue was published on the occasion of the travelling solo exhibition of Liu Kang during 2000-2001. Born in Fujian, China in 1911, Liu Kang spent his formative years in Malaya, studied art in Shanghai and Paris, and taught art in Shanghai in the thick of the Chinese modern art movement. He returned to Malaya in 1937 and moved to Singapore in 1942 where he was regarded as a founder of the modern art movement as well as an acute commentator of diasporic Chinese art and culture.
