This book is an enlarged study of Indian paintings from Kalighat, Bengal, by William George Archer. It includes passages from the author's earlier publications Bazaar Paintings of Calcutta (1953) and Kalighat Drawings (1962). Introduction by the author, illustrations, an annotated bibliography, a list of public collections, a short guide to iconography (in the form of a glossary of principal proper names) as well as a detailed catalogue of Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of Kalighat paintings.
