As the world’s fourth-largest container port, Kaohsiung City Government held an art festival in 2001, featuring art works of ‘container installations’, bringing together total of 20 teams of artists from 15 countries. This exhibition may lay a firm foundation for the future ‘Kaohsiung Biennial’, Vincent Yao, the convenor of Organising Committee says. The festival came under two main categories, visual arts and performing arts, and drew more than 1,000,000 visitors over the period of one month. This catalogue includes executive reports and essays by curators in front, and a brief biography of each artist at the back. With two prefaces by Tchen Yu-chiou, Chairperson of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan and Frank Chang-ting Hsieh, Mayor of Kaohsiung City. Most texts are provided in both Chinese and English, except for the essays, with only abstracts in English.
