Assembling paintings, extensive diary entries and a documentary film by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, 'Hometown Boy' is a multi-faceted exhibition with an attempt to record the artistic process from Liu Xiaodong's perspective as well as to understand Liu's art practice. A series of oil paintings completed in 2010 are showcased, visualising the artist's observation and reflection of the altered landscapes and faces in his hometown Jincheng. The exhibition took place at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing from November 2010 to February 2011.

Includes interview with Liu Xiaodong and essays by Guo Xiaoyan, Alexandra Munroe, Jeff Kelley and Zheng Yan. This catalogue collects images of Liu's paintings, Liu's handwritten diary entries (with English translation), artist's note and documentation of the film Hometown Boy.
