Painting in the Punjab Plains

This book provides information about the works of significant artists who worked in the Punjab from 1849 to 1949. Over 200 artists are identified and the development of their works during the said period is traced. The tradition of miniature painting, the parallel development of painting in different states of the Punjab hills, the influence of British artistic practices and the output of European visitors to the Punjab are the main focus of discussion. A list of 75 European artists and writers as well as a list of 209 local painters with biographical notes are included in the book.
