This is the catalogue for Shi Hu’s solo exhibition at the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong in 2000. One of the contributors writes, ‘Shi Hu’s creativity has reached its peak in the past two years. The heavy colour, multi-layered and mixed-media works displayed in the current exhibition are excellent examples of how he has expanded the use of traditional Chinese painting materials. In addition to ink, he mixes acrylic with Chinese paint as his colouring medium to make his works more expressive and durable. Skilled in layering colours, he is able to create complicated textural and peeling effects…Shi Hu’s great skill in layering colours has become a part of his art.’ The paintings presented here are divided into three categories: ‘Ink paintings’, ‘Heavy colour paintings’ and ‘Oil paintings, giving the readers a glimpse of the diversity of Shi Hu’s art and his mastery of the different media. Biographical information of the artist is included.
