Published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past' at the Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture, Asian Art Museum, San Francisco from May to September 2012. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo.
'The first major exhibition at the Asian Art Museum dedicated to Asian contemporary art, this exhibition explores how Asian cosmologies, views of nature, and religious outlooks are being carried on in the practice of artists "here and now". In the exhibition, the works of 31 Asian artists resonate with approximately 80 artworks selected from among the 17,000 pieces in the museum's collection that spans 6000 years of Asian history.' - from Mami Kataoka's essay
The catalogue is divided into four major sections and features essays by various curators and interviews with the artists. Includes a list of works by contemporary artists in the exhibition and biographies.
