This is the catalogue for the second City and Image exhibition, which was initially organised as a biennial event by the Seoul city government. The exhibition was held in the ‘600th Year Memorial Hall’ (now located in the Gyeonghui Palace grounds) before the current Seoul Museum of Art building had been completed.

Initially not just devoted to ‘media art,’ the exhibition was a large-scale event that included painting, installation and video, and which played a decisive influence in blurring the boundaries between art and everyday life and proposing a new way of considering art in Korea. The ‘Seoul in Media’ exhibition underwent several changes and eventually became the Seoul International Media Art Biennale.

Artists' biographies are provided. With 'Message from the Mayor', Goh Kun and foreword entitled A Small Vessel Cruising through the Reality of the Non-Standard by Sung Wankyung.

N.B. The accompanying essay written by Lee Youngchul is provided in Korean only. The title in the 'Chapter Heading' is a translation by AAA.
