This catalogue was produced for the exhibition entitled 'She: Taiwanese-American Artists Envision Woman' held in November 2009 in New York and curated by Thalia Vrachopoulos. All the artists represented here have Taiwanese origins but live in the United States. Their work shows an interest in their cultural background and a search for identity in the current era of globalisation. In this exhibition, these artists are challenging the sexist notion of women as inferior to men by creating irony in their work which counters outdated stereotypical ideas. The curator provides an interpretation of each artist's statement. Also included is an essay by Jonathan Goodman in which he speaks about the exhibition in terms of it being a social critique of a culture which is now adopting a progressive attitude due to global awareness.
