One of the leading contemporary Chinese printmakers, Ying Tianqi, became well-known for his series of watercolour prints Xidi Village in the late 1980s, which are illustrated in the present monograph. The Chinese art critic, Lin Xiaochun, writes that Ying’s designs are virtual psychological scenes where large black blocks separate, suspend, observe, and question the reality of a residence, and the visual impact they create conjures up the image of the theatre. A brief biography of the artist is included.
