This catalogue is published to accompany The 8th Contemporary Calligraphy of Japan. Suggested in the foreword written by Doug Hall (Director of Queensland Art Gallery), calligraphy, in both traditional and contemporary modes, relies on momentary innovation and elements of chance, with these being integrated into a purely visual and, on occasions, spiritual form of expression. A few articles on Japanese calligraphy, followed by selected monochrome plates and list of works are included.
