Catalogue of solo exhibition by Li Huayi, featuring his large scale landscaoe paintings. Michael Knight wrote, 'Li Huayi views and admires modern Western works through the lens of the Chinese tradition; he speaks of them in terms of brush touch and movement, concepts that relate to Chinese painting and calligraphy. He also notes the influence of East Asian painting and calligraphy on abstract expressionism. And while he admits that elements of abstract expressionism appear in the splashed-ink technique he employs to create the large-scale compositional elements of his landscapes, he finds the roots of his process in works by the twentieth-century Chinese master Zhang Daqian (himself undeniably influenced by abstract expressionism)...' Images of works are accompanied by individual texts.
