Troubled Laughter is a fiction and a meditation on how the moving images portray human emotions in contemporary times. It moves back and forth through the memories of those images, trying to explore the relationship between the narrative of visual image and literary text. From Six Records of a Floating Life, Wang Guowei,The Song of Youth to the film Troubled Laughter, Hu Fang explores the emotional drive behind human behaviours, and how it tries to break through ideological frameworks.
