'ILLUMInations', the International Art Exhibition of the 54th Venice Biennale, directed by Bice Curiger, features 83 artists from around the world. As its title suggests, the exhibition centres on the themes of light and enlightenment, while simultaneously exploring ideas related to 'nation'. It incorporates several works by Venetian Old Master Tintoretto (1518-1594), which were unorthodox and experimental for his time, distinguished by dramatic lighting. Also, as part of the curatorial concept for this edition, four artists were asked to create 'Para-Pavilions', sculptural structures capable of housing works by other artists.

This Italian edition of the catalogue covers the International Art Exhibition in the Central Pavilion at Giardini and Arsenale as well as 89 national participations and 37 collateral events around the city. Included on the pages devoted to the artists in the international exhibition and national pavilions are their responses to five questions related to identity and their sense of belonging. Index of artists and exhibited works provided.

Note: Only Asian artists are listed below.

This is the Italian edition, an English edition of this catalogue is also available at the same location.
