Walking Night

Excerpt from Inward Gazes: Documentaries of Chinese Performance Art 2012, The Macao Museum of Art, Macau S.A.R., 2012, p. 30: 'I collected photographs on the Internet about the event that happened on 5th July 2009, in Urumqi, in order to find out the locations where it transpired. These locations on the photographs were then the basis of my route. As God's messenger, Allah's inner faith provided courage throughout his long night alone, from one mosque to another. In religious stories, faith always retreats darkness; in reality, my night journey was quiet. It was quiet and uneventful. Nothing terrible happened and nothing terrible was seen because everything had been cleared out by the night.'

The performance took place in Urumqi, China.
