This is an artist book written and illustrated by Qiu Anxiong based on the 2000-year-old Chinese text Shan Hai Jing (Classic of the Mountains and Seas), a geographical and cultural accounts of pre-Qin China. In Xin Shan Hai Jing (The New Shan Hai Jing), the artist offers a whimsical picture of the west, satirically describing technically advanced products such as genetically engineered animals and military weapons as exotic animals from the west.
