The catalogue for Zhu Wei’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. In his paintings, one finds a juxtaposition of past and present, graffiti and poetic inscriptions, traditional Chinese paintings and contemporary political pop. By orchestrating these elements, and by rendering them in his distinctive combination of ‘gongbi’ technique and expressionist colours and forms, Zhu Wei lambasts the Mao era and offers his view on the new, modernized China.
