Christina Yuen Zi Chung, Xyza Cruz Bacani, and Wing Chan share objects they own that keep them connected to Hong Kong. Illustrations by Kaitlin Chan.

 

People are leaving, people have left. Often with a degree of ambivalence. And, just as often, the personal connections, attachments, remain strong. In this first iteration of 3SUMS, an illustrated interview series, we asked:

"What's an object you carry that keeps you connected to distant people or places?"

 

 

 


 

 

 


 

 

 

 

Christina Yuen Zi Chung is a writer, translator, and PhD scholar in Feminist Studies at the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Department of the University of Washington. 

Xyza Cruz Bacani is a Filipina author and photographer who uses her work to raise awareness about under-reported stories.

Wing Chan is Assistant Editor at Afterall.

Kaitlin Chan is a cartoonist and cultural worker in Hong Kong.
