Part 4 of the Four-part Talk series on collecting contemporary Asian art and the art market.

Suhanya Raffe, Head of Asian and Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery, contextualises the relationship between the contemporary Asian collection and the Triennial, and look at what effect, if any, the Gallery’s collection and exhibition projects have had on the contemporary Asian art market.

Suhanya Raffel is the Head of Asian and Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery, where she has worked with the contemporary Asian collection since 1995. Since the First Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art launched in 1993, which saw the first acquisitions of contemporary Asian art enter the collection, the Queensland Art Gallery has become one of the lading institutions to advocate and support the art of this region. Raffel will discuss the Queensland Art Gallery’s decision to lead the collecting of Asian art with a contemporary focus. She will contextualise the relationship between the contemporary Asian collection and the Triennial, and look at what effect, if any, the Gallery’s collection and exhibition projects have had on the contemporary Asian art market.

The session will be hosted by Jane DeBevoise. Former Deputy Director of the Guggenheim, Jane DeBevoise currently sits on the Board of the Asia Art Archive and is a PhD candidate for contemporary Chinese art at Hong Kong University.
