This day-long programme allows teachers to take a step back from their hectic work schedules, offering space to think beyond standard school curricula and consider new possibilities for contemporary art education. It aims to support teachers’ well-being and resilience in handling recent changes in Hong Kong education. Under the guidance of artist facilitators, participants will go on a journey of self-reflection and explore different media for inspiration. 

The workshop is facilitated by two local artists and an art therapist: Him LO, a multidisciplinary artist who has engaged in community art practices responding to Hong Kong social issues; YIM Sui Fong, Co-founder of the artist-run organisation Rooftop Institute, and an artist whose work often involves writing, mixed-media art, and public engagement; and Stella Sze Man HO, an experienced teacher and registered expressive arts therapist.  

This programme is designed for secondary school teachers, and attendance is free. Teachers of all disciplines—especially visual arts, liberal studies, values education, and counselling—are welcome.

About the Artist Facilitators

Him LO is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong. He graduated from Middlesex University (BA in illustration) in 2004, Rmit University (BA in fine arts) in 2008, and Lingnan University (MA in cultural studies) in 2014. Him LO has also engaged in community art practices responding to Hong Kong social issues. He has published illustrated storybooks, including Two Swallows, My Beloved Cat, White, and A poem book. 

Stella Sze Man HO is an experienced teacher and registered expressive arts therapist. Having obtained her bachelor’s degree in education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she went on to complete master’s degrees in psychology of music and expressive therapies at the University of Sheffield and Lesley University, respectively. Stella has worked at special needs schools, rehabilitation centres, and various community agencies to share her mission of bringing health equity to clients with special needs and professionals in the field. She is a strong believer in the power of music and multimodal approaches, ones that utilises a variety of methods such as visual arts, drama, and movements, to facilitate personal growth. With her extensive experience in music education and expressive arts therapies with children, parents, and the elderly, she guides and accompanies her clients through a process of self-discovery of their feelings and emotions.

YIM Sui Fong is an artist based in Hong Kong, who holds an MFA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is co-founder of the artist-run organisation Rooftop Institute and a member of the Hong Kong artists’ collective L sub. Through sound, images, video, performance, and installation, she studies micro-relations among people, objects, regions, and histories. She received the Award for Young Artist (Visual Arts) from Hong Kong Development Council (2019/2020) and the WMA Masters Award (2017/18) from WYNG Foundation. Recent exhibitions include emo gym, Tai Kwun, Hong Kong (2022); Landskrona Foto Festival, Landskrona Art Gallery, Sweden (2020); Artists’ Film International, Whitechapel Gallery (2019); A Room of Resistance, Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, Hong Kong (2019); and her book project, The man who attends to the times, commissioned by Oi!, Hong Kong (2018).
