Clipping summarising the reporter's interview with US-based art historian Li Chutsing, conducted during Li's 13-day stay in Hong Kong. In his interview, Li expressed his views on how art from Asia become a topic of interest in both Europe and the United States of America. Li explained that philosophy from the East bears similarities with the ideas of expressionism popular in Europe and USA, thus making Eastern art interesting to those practicing in the West. This rising interest in art from the East also has to do with the rise of USA post-WWII which resulted in the growth of art collectors. A younger generation develops an interest in Eastern art also because of warfares in Southeast Asia, which brought this younger generation to Asia. Easier access to Japan and Taiwan also accounts for the interest in art from these two places, while China is not accessible to those in the USA. He also noted the three kinds of people who study Eastern art in the USA are undergraduate students, graduate students, artists who are interested in art from the East, and collectors.
