The Work in Progress of the Relief Mural at Jyoti Limited

Photograph showing the work in progress of the relief mural that K.G. Subramanyam made for the Research and Development (R&D) Building of Jyoti Limited in Baroda.

The mural, measuring 1500cm x 540cm, was executed in 1974 by using the sand-cast cement technique and was mounted on the north wall of the building. More information about this technique and the other outdoor murals by Subramanyan can be found on page 129 of the book Contemporary Art in Baroda, edited by Gulammohammed Sheikh.

As K.G. Subramanyam recalls, a seed opening was the idea behind this mural. Accompanying the mural is a small plaque that was placed below with a sanskrit Upanishad verse regarding the Ashwattha tree.

The mural was commissioned by Nanubhai Amin.
