Letter from Jyoti Bhatt to Prof. Walter Langhammer, 7 March 1957

Typed letter from artist Jyoti Bhatt, the Secretary of Baroda Group of Artists at the time, to Prof. Walter Langhammer, the Art Director of The Times of India at that time. In the letter, Jyoti Bhatt expresses gratitude to Prof. Langhammer for his consent to inaugurate the second exhibition of Baroda Group of Artists and confirms the opening days of the exhibition.

Context

The exhibition 'Baroda Group of Artists: Second Exhibition of Paintings' was held at Jehangir Art Gallery, Bombay, from 23 to 31 March 1957. Participating artists included Jyoti Bhatt, Shanti Dave, Himmat Shah, Triloke Kaul, Prafull Dave, Feroz Katpitia, G.M. Sheikh, Prof. Stefan Hirsch, G.R. Santosh, Balkrishna Patel, V.R. Patel, N.S. Bendre, Ratan Parimoo, Vinay Trivedi, and K.G. Subramanyan.   

The Baroda Group of Artists was formed in the year 1956 by G.R. Santosh, Ratan Parimoo, K.G. Subramanyan, Prabha Dongre, Shanti Dave, K. Patel, Triloke Kaul, Vinay Trivedi, N.S. Bendre, Balkrishna Patel, Jyoti Bhatt, Prafull Dave, and Ramesh Pandya. The Group had exhibited in various cities like Bombay, Ahmedabad, and Srinagar between the mid-1950s and mid-1960s. Members of the Group changed over the years.
