This is a monograph of Cai Jin’s ‘Banana Plant’ series. As noted by Li Xianting, this series ‘gives outer form to the inner shape of her (Cai Jin’s) feelings. The thick, strong brushstrokes, the viscous reds and pinks interlaced with threads of green, and most importantly the meticulous, dense and complicated compositional structures with their tightly focused large forms constitute her language; and through this language we understand something of her inner psyche. Perhaps the most obvious element in this language is the strong sense of sexuality.’ A biography of the artist is included.
