This monograph examines the work and career of Zainul Abedin (1914-1976), a pioneering artist who established the first art school in Dhaka in 1948. Part of a series of publications brought out by the partnership of Skira and the Bengal Foundation on Bangladesh's pioneering as well as contemporary masters and their contributions to the country's art history.

Included are colour plates of artworks, detailed biographical notes on the artist, and essays by Abul Monsur, Nazrul Islam and Abul Hasnat. An interview with Mrs Jahanara Abedin, the artist's wife, by Abul Hasnat is also included.
