Under the leadership of Mr. Vidarte, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has successfully turned an old industrial district in Spain into a vibrant international art centre. He will share his experience with the students and the public in the planning and operation of the Bilbao Guggenheim. Equally significant are the visits of the senior staff from Solomon Guggenheim, New York over a six month period. The series of intensive weekend WORKSHOPS will start on 20th November 2004 with Lisa Dennison, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Ms. Dennison, an internationally renowned curator and administrator, will launch the workshop series on “Curatorial Practices”. In December, John Hanhardt, Senior Curator of Film and Media Arts and one of the leading curators in organising new media art exhibitions, will lead workshops on “History and Presentation of Film and Video and New Media Installation Art”. During the first four months of 2005, more senior staff from Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York will visit Hong Kong, to include Karen Meyerhoff, Managing Director for Exhibition, Collections and Design; Kim Kanatani, Director of Education; Helen Warwick, Director of Membership and Kendall Hubert, Director of Corporate Development. They will host workshops on Exhibition Planning & Design, Education and Community Outreach, as well as, Fundraising & Development for the Professional Certificate programmes.

This public talk series is being held in conjunction with the Professional Certificate in Visual Arts Management and Professional Certificate in Curatorship of The Art School of the Hong Kong Arts Centre which includes workshops being conducted by senior Guggenheim staff and classes run by local professionals in the field, commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
