PageNEXT and Bamboo Curtain Studio co-organises a one-month research residency in Hong Kong as part of a collaborative exchange programme initiated through PageNEXT's Taipei Cultural Exchange Trip in June 2016.

Taipei-based musician and sound artist Chi Po-hao was selected. During the exchange, he will develop his ‘Lightscape Project’ by conducting interviews and field research with individuals, including PageNEXT members, on their perceptions of the city of Hong Kong—culminating in a musical composition. PageNEXT and Chi will collaboratively present public programmes in Hong Kong and Taiwan to share the results of the exchange.

Chi Po-hao holds a MA in Music from Goldsmiths College, University of London; and a BA in Economics from National Taiwan University. His primary medium is sound, principally involving, but not limited to, live electronic, electroacoustic composition, and installation. Chi often applies self-made tools and found objects based on electronic devices, everyday materials, and junk in live performances. He was granted residencies at V2_Institute of Unstable Media, Rotterdam; and Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. He has performed on tour in Beijing, Hong Kong, Lanzhou, London, Manchester, Paris, Rotterdam, Taipei, Wales, and Yinchuan.

The Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) in Taiwan aims to promote cross-cultural exchanges by providing a meeting point for visitors from national and international art-related fields, for short visits or specific projects. It endeavours to promote these exchanges by lifting barriers, and providing a creative environment for needed time, space, and facilities for production and residencies onsite—serving artists in their research, testing, and trial-runs of their products and services. In 2010, BCS worked with curator Wu Mali to initiate the project Art as Environment – A Cultural Action at the Plum Tree Creek to examine social issues via artistic practices, through which urban sustainability, environmental preservation, and community engagement were addressed.
