Language: Mandarin (with English simultaneous interpretation provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.)
Xing Danwen is one of the earliest artists in China to use photography as an art form to address social issues such as urbanisation, globalisation, identity, and gender. Important also are her photographs documenting the first generation of art provocateurs in the post-1989 era. Art historian Jane DeBevoise joins Xing in a conversation on her photographic work’s relationship to performance art, with a focus on the East Village scene in Beijing and beyond.
All events are free and open to the public.
