This catalogue was published on the occasion of 45th Venice Biennale.

'This volume, presented in English, is an appendix to the general catalogue of the 45th Venice Biennale, entitled 'Cardinal Points of Art', and a collection of the most important texts on the various exhibitions in the Biennale constellation.

The general catalogue itself is in Italian. From it we have taken the most significant theoretical studies, one per exhibition, a fitting description of the conceptual environment of contemporary art and the fields in which collective and individual poetics are presently being expressed.

Texts that are not included in the general catalogue have been added to cover the entire cultural scene. These include Massimo Cacciari's article in praise of Ernst Junger, "gran premio" of "Cardinal Points of Art", Gilles Deleuze's on Frances Bacon and Andre Glucksmann's on the "Machines of Peace" and the Bosnian artists...

...The aim of this volume is something of a new venture in the format of art catlogues. It offers in English what, for the most part, is already in the Italian catalogue; that is, one theoretical article, by a philosopher, for each exhibition in order to grant a conceptural approach and a basis for further historical and critical studies.' - Achille Bonito Oliva, Curator of The 45th International Art Exhibition
