Catalogue of the first ever exhibition of Alfonso Ossorio in a Philippine museum. He was known as a painter and sculptor who synthesized Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Catholicism with his Hispanic and Asian roots. 'Alfonso Ossorio (1916-1990) was an American-Filipino artist. His heritage was Hispanic, Filipino, and Chinese. Born in Manila to affluent Filipino parents from the province of Negros Occidental, he received European and American education in the 1940s and 1950s, which placed him in the fortunate position of witnessing pivotal moments in Western modern art. A committed artist and art patron, he was one of the earliest and closest supporters of Jackson Pollock, perhaps the most prominent figure in Abstract Expressionism.' - excerpt from Director's Foreword
Includes essays by Klaus Ottmann and Liliane Rejante Manahan, colour plates, and artist's chronology.
