Incorporating methods of mapping, collecting and archiving in her work, Banu Cennetoğlu (b. 1970, Ankara, Turkey) explores the production, accumulation and distribution of images as well as the politics of memory.

'CATALOG 2009 is a limited edition artist’s book, produced by Cennetoğlu in 2009 as part of her contribution to the Pavilion of Turkey at the Venice Biennale in 2009. Originally produced to function as a mail-order catalogue presented at the pavilion, the book comprises 450 photographs from the artist’s personal archive. The images document various spaces and are classified in fifteen categories such as ‘caution’, ‘vanity’ and ‘replacement’. The book also details coded access to an online image bank of the featured photographs. During the biennale viewers were invited to use the code to download selected images for free. This exclusive offer was only valid until 22 November 2009, the last day of the 53rd Venice Biennale.' - from the Chisenhale Gallery website
