This is the first book in a series of five, compiled as a selection of the author’s review on body theory, fringe aesthetics and Taiwan’s arts and cultural ecology. It covers topics from theatre, dance, political economics to health care system. Through a reverse thinking process starting on a diversity of genres, and referring to Eastern and Western philosophies, it reviews the body imagery carried in art works and in daily life. The book works around a sincere humanitarian concern, while it reflects closely the arts and cultural development of post-war Taiwan. What makes the book stands out from other chronologies or artist biographies, is that its writing strategies and style break through traditional thinking modes and logics, thus develop layering arguments regarding history, geography, categorization and theories. It opens up a new vision for art criticism and extents the boundary of fringe art.
本書是書系五卷中第一卷，是作者三十年來對身體理論、邊緣美學、台灣藝文環境的評論選輯。此卷內容橫跨劇場、舞蹈、政治經濟學和醫療體系，從多元的文類切入作反向思考，並旁徵博引東西方哲學，檢視文藝作品和日常生活中的身體意象。本書背後的核心價值其實是深層的人道關懷，緊密對照台灣戰後的藝文發展環境。有別於一般編年戲劇史或藝術家傳記，本書的書寫策略與風格脫離制式思考模式與邏輯，在歷史、地域、類型、理論之間作出層層辯證與剖析，同時開拓藝文評論的新視野和邊緣藝術的思考疆界。
