Help us edit articles on independent art spaces in Asia by joining our Wikipedia Edit-a-thon onsite at AAA’s newly renovated library.
Wikipedia Asian Month 2022: Edit-a-thon on Independent Art Spaces brings participants together to discuss, create, and improve Wikipedia articles about independent art spaces in Asia. This event is part of AAA’s ongoing effort to contribute to discussions about the representation of art and visual culture in Asia on open-source knowledge platforms. Organised with the assistance of Wikimedia Community User Group Hong Kong, the workshop is aligned with Wikipedia Asian Month 2022—an annual online event that addresses the underrepresentation of articles about Asia on Wikipedia.
Learn more about the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon series and browse previous entries that participants have added, edited, or translated.
This event is part of our theme cycle for 2022–24, “Independent Art Spaces.” We ask: What historical conditions make independent spaces necessary? What contemporary conditions challenge the definition of independence?
The event is free and open to the public with registration. We welcome anyone and everyone interested in learning about editing Wikipedia to attend, regardless of experience or background.
Before the Edit-a-thon:
- Create a Wikipedia account.
- Enrol as an editor on the event dashboard. (Passcode: independent)
Prepare ideas for creating or improving articles on Wikipedia. If you need inspiration, take a look at our suggested articles and online resources, which we will continue to update up to the event. - If you’re new to Wikipedia, watch the tutorial video below or download our tutorial presentation and booklet.
On the Day of the Edit-a-thon
There will be a thirty-minute English tutorial at the beginning of the event, led by AAA. Our team members will be able to assist Cantonese-speaking participants, and members from the Wikimedia Community User Group Hong Kong will be present to assist with technical questions.
If you are not able to join us on 12 November, you can still contribute anytime between 12nn on 12 Nov and 11:59pm on 20 Nov. Our Wikipedia event dashboard will record the contribution of everyone enrolled as an editor.
