Interview with Phoebe Man Ching Ying, 15 July 1998 (Part 1), 訪問文晶瑩,一九九八年七月十五日(第一部份)
Interview with Man Chingying Phoebe by Leung Chiwo Warren
In the first recording, artist Phoebe Man Chingying recalls being passionate about art in high school, and how Kurt Chan enlightened her during her third year of undergraduate studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Department of Fine Arts (00:00–19:24). After graduating, Man worked as a reporter at the Hong Kong Economic Journal. During her tenure, she interviewed artists and wrote about art and culture, which influenced her thoughts on and practice of art later on. In the interview, Man recalls her first exhibition held at the First Institute of Art and Design in 1994 (19:39–37:30). When asked how she defines her art, Man says that she views most of her works to be more mixed-media works than installation works. She also discusses her thoughts on artists making the works with their own hands, and how she chooses and handles materials for her art (37:40–1:02:00).
