Biography:

James Cox is an art dealer, appraiser and lecturer and currently resides in Woodstock, New York.

Cox is the owner and Director of the James Cox Gallery in Woodstock, New York, a gallery specializing in 20th century American art. From 1976 to 1990, he served as Executive Director of the Grand Central Art Galleries in Manhattan, New York. In these capacities, for over 35 years, Cox has discovered and promoted new talent, written catalogues, organized shows and artists’ estates, as well as advised collectors and institutions on the acquisitions and sales of painting and sculpture.

Alongside his specialization in American art, in 1985 Cox introduced the Western art world to five artists from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing—Chen Danqing, Wang Jida, Zhang Hongnian, Li Chuanwu and Jin Gao, and organized shows in New York for their works. In 1989, through the invitation of the then-Soviet government, Cox helped to establish the first Soviet-American art conference, Art Most, at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

Cox旗下的James Cox Gallery位於紐約伍德斯托克，專營二十世紀美國藝術。在1976至1990年間，Cox出任紐約曼克頓Grand Central Art Galleries的總監。多年來，Cox致力於發掘新藝術家、撰寫評論文章、策劃展覽及藝術區、並協助機構建立藝術收藏。
 
1985年Cox在紐約策劃了一個中國藝術家的展覽，其中五位藝術家皆來自中央美術學院︰陳丹青、王濟達、張紅年、李全武及金高。1989年，他受前蘇聯政府之邀，在莫斯科的Tretyakov Gallery舉辦了蘇聯美國藝術研討會。
