This booklet accompanies the solo exhibition of Hong Kong artist wen yau, who during this section sat the last section of Visual Arts exam for the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) due to the upcoming reform in exam mechanism within the education system in Hong Kong. She obtained a grade D.
She then strove to learn painting from an art teacher who studied at the Central Academy of Fine Art to 'reestablish' her own sense of aesthetics and skills.
Two years later, she sat the last Visual Arts session of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) and again obtained a grade D. This assessment, however, will remain attached to her forever, for the old exam system will be all but gone.
After all, this exhibition, by presenting documentation materials of this two-year process, probes thinking into the rigidity, inflexibility of the education system in Hong Kong, and asks how creativity could be accomplished under such an institutional framework.
Includes essays, statements, and biographies of artist and contributors.
