Famous for his ‘gongbi’ painting of Chinese women in traditional costumes, the artist Hu Yongkai has also produced works using the ‘xieyi’ (freehand) style of painting. The present catalogue features fifty of Hu’s ‘xieyi’ paintings in which the artist makes use of splash colour, ink and a fine line to express his ideas. A biography of the artist is included.
