Lee Byng was among one of the leading masters who had dominated the Hong Kong art scene from the 30s to the 50s. Having brought up and trained in Canada and later moved to Hong Kong in 1930, Lee was able to combine his knowledge of the ways of life of the Chinese and his mastery of the western medium to establish a unique artistic experience. He had contributed to the development of art in Hong Kong through his teaching and activities he had organized as a member of local art organizations. This exhibition catalogue presents some 50 representative works of Lee Byng from the 20s to the 80s, providing a comprehensive survey of his artistic path and achievements. A chronology of Lee’s life and his artistic activities is included together with contributions from his children.
