Chabet One-Man Show

Press release of Roberto Chabet's solo exhibition, titled 'Chabet One-Man Show', published in The Manila Chronicle on 10 November 1970. The exhibition titled 'New Works' was held at Luz Gallery from 12 to 24 November 1970.

Excerpt from the exhibition press release:

The exhibition features 'forty-odd acrylic collages (known as the Ceche Collages) belonging to a series done by the artist in 1968, and is a continuation of the compositions of about 1966-67. The common element in the collages is an air of spontaneity, in reality achieved through careful reorganisation of freely-drawn and painted forms. Dark outlines, dotted lines and heavy scribbles hold the shapes and colours in place, at the same time creating relationships and tensions. The predominantly organic shapes invite unlimited associations, sometimes anatomical, mineral, or botanical, although in the end they exist simply as shapes floating in empty space. Chabet's sense of colour, like form, is personal and contemporary. The sweet, astringent, off-beat colour harmonies recall banners, posters, walls, objects, mementos, and other ambiguous motifs, drawn from innumerable and sometimes surprising sources.'
