Press release written by Roberto Chabet for his solo exhibition 'Observatory', a two-part installation exhibited simultaneously at Finale Art gallery and West Gallery from 4 - 16 April 2002.

Chabet wrote, ''Observatory' examines the complexities of seeing, rendered more complex by the memories encrypted in the objects being observed and the subliminal responses stirred in the observer's storehouse of memories: here the photosensitive paper 'burning' in ambient light remembers darkness - or the blinding blankness of light - recording not appearances but disappearances; the map, in itself a trace - a memory - of territory, retrieves the memory of a memory, marking territory in the mind's labyrinthine recesses.'
