Review of Ringo Bunoan's solo exhibition 'Archiving Roberto Chabet' by Helen Yu-Rivera in Business Mirror, 25 March 2009. The closed-door exhibition was held at the Jorge B. Vargas Museum from 3 March - 4 April 2009.
Excerpt from the review:
'What is interesting about this exhibition is that the works are shown behind a closed glass door, a setup used by Chabet in an exhibition in the CCP in the 1970s. The closed door fortifies the barrier between art and viewer. The setup also signifies the liberating qualities of conceptual art. Many artists are usually at the mercy of pseudo or professional art critics and interpreters who give meaning and substance to their works. Conceptual artists, through the intellectual discourse that their works provokes, wrest this power from their so-called better educated critics. The closed door defiantly proclaims this ownership setting the limits between the viewer and the art work and labeling the former as mere voyeurs.'
